Man do i feel gay.....Part 2

Okay I’d like to think I’m a fair and reasonable human being, so I tried something which I most likely will never try again and that was give this seasons new shounen-ai show Antique Bakery a shot. I knew I would regret this but I am a little worried that I don’t completely regret my choice as much as i feel i should.
So lets start from the beginning with the op. The song....well i would never choose to listen too but it wasn't the most ear grating piece of jpop I've ever heard so +1 on that. The artwork is also interesting with all the characters shown as 2-d cut outs in a 3-d environment which blends here in the op much better than it does when attempted in the show so another +1. Now for the show itself, i was expecting melodramatic drama on par with what i find in most yuri shows, and i was right to an extent, but also very wrong. The characters are obviously the focal point of this show and there all believable and likable (some personality quirks not withstanding), and i found myself engrossed much more in their stories than i thought i would. At one point especially at the end of episode 1 I found myself empathising with Ono. So needless to say the story defiantly be(which is why i decided to check this out because of all the praise the story was getting not to mention awards)Another thins i appreciate (and i use appreciate very loosely) is the fact that yaoi esq moments are relatively few and far between and are really just fan service to all the screaming fan girls. Also episode 2 revolves around the mans mans world of boxing, and that definitely gives it the variety shows like this usually need. So lets give the story +1. Now moving on to something that isn't so good the animation. The first episodes animation was absolute shit. Now don't get me wrong Ive seen worse but out of all the shows I've seen this summer this has the worst animation of them all. One moment in particular in episode one involved the two male leads walking down the street, and it seemed that this challenged the animators a little too much. This isn't the first time I've seen this walking in place problem, but its the first time I've seen it in awhile. However the animators seemed more tasteful in covering up there lack of budget in the fallowing episodes. Another issue is the blending of 3-d back rounds with traditional animated character. This does not blend well at all almost 90% of the time. So for animation -1. Music didn't really stand out at all on account of i never really noticed it so i can't really comment on it. The voice actors did a respectable job and all the voices seemed to fit the characters but again considering i did not have a predetermined notion on this series i really can't comment again. I did like how they did the sponsor ad, random, yes but something a little different made it stand out, not having the creepy guy or far too cheery woman say it. Anywho overall much better than anticipated, but at its worst its still shoun-ai so not my genre of choice, however anyone with an open mind and any fan girl especially will love this show. i think i gave it 3 +1's and one -1 so lets give antique a 2..... 2.8787
